WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -Chadd Blasko struck out 15 Miami Redhawks in eight innings of work to earn the victory in the Boilermakers 12-2 triumph on Saturday at Lambert Field.
The junior right-hander walked none and allowed just four hits and did not allow an earned run in the outing. Boilermaker pitchers have allowed just three earned runs in the last three games, spanning 27.0 innings.
Purdue belted out 12 runs on 17 hits, including home runs both Kris Luce and Nick McIntyre. McIntyre went three for six with a career-high six RBI.
The Boilermakers jumped on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning on John Gusich's RBI double and Brad Kriner's sacrifice fly.
McIntyre drove home Adam Fazio with an RBI single in the third to give the home team a 3-0 advantage. Purdue added a run in the fourth and Luce blasted a solo homer in the fifth to extend the margin to 5-0.
The Boilermakers exploded for a five-run sixth inning, including a three-run home run by McIntyre. Andy Rempel's RBI single plated David Harrell and Mitch Koester singled in Luce during the frame, giving Purdue a 10-0 lead after six.
Miami scored two unearned runs in the eighth inning before Purdue answered with two more of their own in the bottom half of the frame.
Blasko dominated the Redhawks, retiring 14 straight from the third-inning through the seventh, to record his second win of the season. His 15 strikeouts shattered his previous career high of nine set on April 14, 2001 vs. Penn State.
Fazio collected four hits and scored twice while Luce was three for four with three runs scored.
Purdue and Miami play the second game of the home-and-home series on Sunday, March 24 with a 2 p.m. contest in Oxford, Ohio.

-Nick McIntyre's six RBI are a new career-high, surpassing his previous best of four vs. Valparaiso on April 27, 2001.
-Kris Luce tied a career-high with three runs scored, set twice previously, last at Oklahoma State on April 29, 2000.
