WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Despite a Boilermaker offensive attack that featured 13 runs and 18 hits, their highest output of the season, Coastal Carolina defeated Purdue 21-13, in a wild Saturday afternoon slugfest afternoon in Conway, S.C.

Purdue jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when David Harrell's double scored Daniel Underwood and Nick McIntyre.

Coastal Carolina answered in their first at-bat of the afternoon on Brandon Powell's three-run home run off starter Dustin Glant, who retired one batter before giving way to Billy Lester. Three batters later, Jeff Baker hit a three-run homer of his own off Lester to give the Chanticleers a 6-2 after the game's first frame.

The Boilermakers tallied four runs in the top of the second to notch the score at six. McIntyre doubled home Brad Kriner and Mitch Koester, just missing a grand slam with a shot off the left field wall, to chase CCU starter Brian Fischer. Later in the same inning, John Gusich added a sacrifice fly scoring Underwood and Adam Fazio singled home McIntyre to even the ledger.

The homestanding Chanticleers regained the lead in the third with a pair off RBI singles by Kevin McGarvey and Chad Oxendine.

Adam Fazio gave Purdue a 9-8 lead in the fourth inning with his first home run as a Boilermaker, a three-run shot scoring Harrell and Kris Luce.

Coastal knotted the score at nine in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run with Justin Owens.

Daniel Underwood belted his second home run of the season, a solo shot, to give Purdue a 10-9 lead in the fifth. McIntyre scored on a passed ball and Gusich added a sac fly, scoring Harrell, to extend the Boilermaker advantage to 12-9.

The Chanticleers scored five runs in the bottom half of the fifth to take a 14-12 lead. Powell hit his second home run of the day, a grand slam over the right field wall of reliever Luke Howard.

Purdue cut the deficit to 14-13 in the sixth when Andy Rempel, who reached base earlier in the inning with a double, scored on Koester's RBI groundout.

Coastal answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of RBI singles by Steve Pinnochio and Ryan McGraw to extend their lead to 16-13. The Chanticleers added to their margin with three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth for the eventual 21-13 margin.
