WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sounak Chatterjee, a freshman on the Purdue men's tennis team, defeated Northwestern's Ahmed Wahla 6-2, 6-2 in the title match of the Big Ten Indoor Singles Championships 7-8 draw on Monday, Nov. 12 in East Lansing, Mich.

Purdue coach Tim Madden was thrilled for his freshman.

"Sounak played a great tournament and I am really proud of how he stuck it out," Madden said. "Winning four matches in this tournament should really help his confidence. We are expecting him to contribute this spring."

This was Purdue's final fall tournament. The Boilermakers will resume play on Jan. 26, 2002, when they host Butler at the Lafayette Sports Center.
