Purdue lost game one of Saturday's doubleheader to Indiana, 2-0. In a game where the two teams combined for seven hits, Indiana scored both of its runs after its batters reached base after being hit by a pitch. The game lasted just an hour and 20 minutes.
Dave Blomberg walked in the bottom of the first. He was put in scoring position on a Nick McIntyre ground out, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. David Harrell grounded out to end the inning.
Blasko struck out Vasili Spanos for his first strike out of the game in the bottom of the second. In Purdue's half of the third, McCutcheon standout John Badylak, making his first career start in left field, had the first Boilermaker hit of the game with a double down the left field line, leading off third inning.
Blasko struck out his first two batters of the third inning before hitting Dan Haegele with a pitch. Haegele scored on a Nick Evans single.
John Gusich ripped a single to center field in the top of the fifth inning, just the second Purdue hit on the day, the third baserunner. He was unable to score.
Josh Romero was questionably hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning for Indiana. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, then scored on a base hit by Haegle. Blasko was able to get the next two batters to ground out to short, ending the bottom of the fifth.
The Hoosiers left two runners on base in the sixth, as Blasko struck out Josh Romero to end the inning after Spanos walked and Mark Calkins singled.
Despite being credited with the loss, Blasko was impressive, pitching his third consecutive complete game, allowing just five hits and striking out four batters. He falls to 5-4 on the year.
