Men's Tennis Falls To Michigan

April 22, 2001

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The men's tennis team was defeated 4-3 Sunday at Michigan.

"All year we have played truly solid doubles matches and failed to get the job done in singles," head coach Tim Madden said. "Today was no exception. We don't compete well when the pressure is on in singles and that is why we lost today."

Purdue swept the doubles portion of play with wins at the No. 1-3 positions. In singles action, Andrew Wakefield defeated Danny McCain 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 position. At No. 4, Carl McCafferty claimed a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory over Anthony Jackson.

The Boilermakers will await its fate for the Big Ten Championships, which begins on Thursday in Madison.
