WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The men's tennis team decisively defeated Michigan State 6-1 Saturday in East Lansing.
"Today we really need to play with confidence throughout the lineup," head coach Tim Madden said. "We definitely accomplished that. Hopefully that confidence will last into tomorrow."
The Boilermakers swept doubles action with wins at all three positions.
In singles action, Jason Marshall led the way with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Eric Simonton at the No. 1 position. Scott Mayer picked up a win at No. 2 over Goran Topalo. A switch in the lineup at No. 3 and No. 4 proved to be successful with both Andrew Wakefield and Carl McCafferty winning respective matches. Derek Miller rounded out the day with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 5 over Mike Jonckheere.
Purdue will face Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m.
