WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The men's tennis team fell 5-2 Friday to Ohio State. With the loss, the Boilermakers dropped to 11-7 (3-4 Big Ten) on the season.
"Today's match was very disheartening," head coach Tim Madden said. "We were simply out competed. As a team we have found we can play tough teams close, but we just aren't finding a way to get the job done."
The Boilermakers started the match strong when they swept Ohio State in doubles action. Singles action is where Purdue hit a snag. Derek Miller was the lone member of the Old Gold and Black to win with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Derek DeFalco at No. 5.
"We are going to have to put together a stronger singles effort," Madden said. "We have to also focus on finishing what we start. We have to handle business in singles action.
Purdue will look to improve on the singles performance Saturday when it hosts Penn State.
"When we played Penn State at home last year it was almost identical circumstances," Madden said. "We'll have to put today behind us and find a way to win."
