WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win on Sunday at Iowa.
"We overcame difficult conditions to win today," head coach Tim Madden said. "This is the fastest surface we will probably play on this year. On a court like this one, good serves become better and great serves become impossible to break."
The Boilermakers managed to get out to a 1-0 start after capturing three wins in doubles action for the point. In singles action Andrew Wakefield defeated Hunter Skogman at the No. 4 position. At No. 5, Derek Miller defeated Tom Buetikor 6-1, 7-6. Scott Mayer's match at No. 2 singles became the deciding factor. Mayer defeated Stuart Waters 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
"Scott once again found a way to get things done in his doubles and singles matches today," Madden said. "He adjusted to the different surface and played great matches."
