March 2, 2001

Box Score

Ben Quick turned in another impressive pitching performance, but it was not enough as the Boilermakers fell to Troy State 2-1 in ten innings.

Quick made his thid start of the year, striking out ten batters in eight innings pitched. He allowed just two walks and one earned run. In three games this year, Quick has pitched 24 innings, struck out 28 batters, allowed just six walks with an ERA of 1.88.

After Troy State got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Purdue answered back in the top of the second. Nate Sickler led off with a triple, then scored on a John Gusich groundout. Sickler's triple was his first and the team's first on the year. He later added a double, his team-high fourth of the year. The score remained tied until the bottom of the tenth inning when Drew Miller singled to score Larry Newman, giving Troy State the 1-0 victory.

Kris Luce led the team with three hits, his highest output of the season, while David Harrell and Nick McIntyre has two hits, in addition to Sickler. It marked the second time this season both players had two hits in a game.
