WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team blanked Butler on Saturday at the Lafayette Sports Center. With the win the Boilermakers improved to 2-2 on the season.
"We came ready to play," Boilermaker head coach Tim Madden said. "We decided it was time to win and had the attitude in doubles. That just carried over into singles and we never let up."
The Boilermakers won each of the three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Jason Marshall and Dan Swan paired at the No.1 position to defeat Jimmy Borendame and Brandon Currie 8-6. At No. 2, Laith Al-Agba and Carl McCafferty beat Aubrey Annan and Peter Voelz 8-6. The duo of Scott Mayer and Troy Havens was successful at No. 3 with a 8-1 win over Abel Contreras and Josh Ray.
Purdue took decisive victories in each of the six singles matches. Marshall knocked off Currie 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 and McCafferty stopped Voelz 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2. Mayer defeated Alex Kurz 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3, while Derek Miller won at No. 4 6-1, 7-5 over Borendame. Havens beat Ray 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Laith Al-Agba closed the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Tony Batuello.
The Old Gold and Black will host Brown on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
