Volleyball Falls To Iowa, 3-0

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue volleyball team fell 10-15, 7-15, 8-15 to Iowa Friday in the IAF, marking the first time since Oct. 20, 1995 the Hawkeyes have captured a win in West Lafayette. With the loss, the Boilermakers drop to 11-16 (3-12 Big Ten) and Iowa improves to 12-11 (8-7 Big Ten).

"We played well at times but could not sustain it long enough to win a game," head coach Jeff Hulsmeyer said. "Our freshman really stepped up for us tonight. As a team we will learn that execution wins games and find a way to play consistently."

Freshman Eryn Leach led Purdue with 13 kills and recorded only one error on 21 attempts to hit at a clip of .571 (13-1-21). Classmate Joanna Lowry recorded 10 kills on the night and hit at a clip of .360 (10-1-25). Senior setter Melissa Risher tallied 25 assists and junior Maegan Petersen recorded 10 digs on the evening.

Iowa jumped out to an 8-1 lead to start Game 1. Purdue made good on three consecutive Hawkeye errors to cut the advantage in half. A kill from Petersen and a block assist from Petersen and sophomore Tiffany Yoskey brought the Boilermakers within two and cut the Iowa lead to 8-6. The Hawkeyes went on a 5-3 run, bringing the score to 13-9. Purdue could muster only one more kill as Iowa went on to win 15-10.

The Boilermakers began Game 2 down 3-1. The Old Gold and Black went on a 5-1 run to capture a 6-4 lead. But the Hawkeyes scored five unanswered to take over with a score of 11-6. Iowa did not look back as it went on a 4-1 run to win 15-7.

Purdue started Game 3 with a 6-3 lead. Iowa went scored four unanswered to take a 7-6 lead. The Hawkeyes then went on an 8-2 run to take the game and the match.
