Volleyball Team Bows To No. 12 Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Purdue volleyball team fell to 9-10 (1-6 Big Ten) Friday when it fell 15-3, 15-6, 15-4 to No. 12 Penn State. The Nittany Lions improved to 15-4 (4-3 Big Ten).

"The only way to win a match like this is to go in and play with heart and soul," Boilermaker head coach Jeff Hulsmeyer said. "Tonight we didn't do that. We just watched Penn State play."

The Boilermakers were outhit .417 (44-9-84) to .105 (32-22-95), outblocked 9-1 and outdug 32-24. Senior Julie Doud led Purdue in kills with 13.

Doud led the Boilermakers with six kills in Game 1. But her effort was in vain as Purdue was downed 15-3.

After the Boilermakers fought hard for a slight 5-4 lead in Game 2, Penn State went on a an 11-1 run to win 15-6. Purdue only recorded four points in Game 3.
