Men's Tennis Team Stops Iowa 6-1

April 2, 2000

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Tim Madden, head coach of the Purdue men's tennis team, wanted his squad to improve on their intensity and confidence in doubles action. On Sunday, when the Boilermakers ran over Iowa 6-1, his desire became reality.

"Our doubles performance today was heads and shoulders above yesterday's performance," Madden said. "We came out and played pretty tight. I am proud of our guys for coming out this weekend and taking care of business."

The Boilers easily captured the doubles point by winning convincingly at all three positions. In singles action, Purdue claimed victories in five of six matches.

"I give Iowa a lot of credit because they made every match a fight," Madden said. "Today, we just turned out to be the more confident team."

With the win, the Boilers improve to 8-7 on the season, and post a 4-1-conference mark. Madden feels the win helps Purdue's for the Big Ten tourney.

"Now we are 4-1, and I think that we are positioning ourselves well for the conference tourney," Madden said. "We're fighting harder, and playing with a lot more confidence."
