WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - First graders from the Oakland School got a special treat this afternoon, as they got to witness the No. 57 Purdue men's tennis team knock off No. 41 Louisville.
"It was really great having those kids here today," Purdue head coach Tim Madden said. "They really got the guys pumped for doubles action. I am really thrilled they got to make out to help us claim the victory."
An exciting afternoon began with Jason Marshall and Andrew Wakefield taking over the No. 1 doubles match, defeating Soachim Lien and Tvrtko Kujundzio 8-2. Laith Al-Agba and Scott Mayer handed Paulo Carvalho and Cody Conley a 9-7 loss to secure the doubles point.
Mayer made claiming the first singles victory at the No. 4 spot look easy by handing Carvalho a quick 6-4, 6-1 decision. The Boilers found success at the No. 1 singles spot from Marshall, who claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Kujundzio. Carl McCafferty secured the victory for Purdue by defeating Alex Sivertsen 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot.
The Boilers will head west for spring action on Saturday. They will face two of the nation's top teams in No. 19 Southern California (March 16) and No. 5 Pepperdine (March 17).
