WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team fell to No. 33 Notre Dame Saturday in a 6-1 decision. Purdue head coach team Madden was shocked with the play from the Fighting Irish.
"Notre Dame's doubles teams had energy like we haven't seen this year," Madden said. "They hit us off the court early on and that really set the tone for the match. That lingered on throughout singles."
Notre Dame claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three matches at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Laith Al-Agba and Derek Miller were able to pull off a tough 9-8 (1) victory at No. 3 over James Malhame and Ashok Raju.
In singles action, Andrew Wakefield was the lone Boilermaker to win a match. At the No. 4 singles spot, Wakefield downed Javier Taborga 6-4, 6-3.
"We appeared to a real up and down team this week," Madden said. "Even though we exerted a lot of energy out there today, Notre Dame did to us what we did to Indiana on Thursday."
