COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Purdue baseball team committed five errors en route to a 7-5 loss to No. 19 Ohio State on Friday in Columbus, Ohio. The Boilers drop to 20-23 overall and 7-10 in the Big Ten. Ohio State extends its winning streak to 14 games and improves to 35-7 overall and 16-1 in the conference.
The Buckeyes used a six-run first inning to jump out to an early lead. Ohio State scored their runs with only one hit, as Purdue starter Andy Helmer (3-4) walked two and hit two batters. The Purdue defense also committed two errors in the inning, leading to three unearned runs.
Purdue staged a late comeback with three runs in the fifth inning and two in the seventh, largely due to four Buckeye errors.
