Boilers End Nine-Game Losing Streak

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue baseball team ended a nine-game skid with a 6-4 victory over Evansville on Wednesday at Lambert Field.

The Boilers (12-20) used five pitchers in the game and held the Purple Aces scoreless until the seventh inning. Sophomore right-hander Austin Bilke (1-4) picked up his first win of the season allowing one hit while striking out one in two innings of work. Juniors Russ Morgan, Jeremy Ballard and Andy Helmer and sophomore David Gassner also pitched a predetermined number of innings for Purdue.

Offensively, Purdue pounded out 10 hits in the game. Junior Eric Frei, sophomore Nate Sickler and freshman Kris Luce had two hits apiece for the Boilers. Sickler led Purdue with two RBI and two runs scored.

Evansville starter Preston Larrison (7-2) lasted four innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs in only his second loss of the season. The right-hander struck out only one, while walking four.

The Boilers return to Big Ten action with a four-game series against Iowa on April 16-18 in Iowa City.
