Baseball Losing Streak Extends to Five Games

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Purdue baseball team fell to 11-16 overall and 1-4 in the Big Ten with an 18-4 loss to Indiana on Friday in Bloomington. The Boilers have now lost five consecutive games and have allowed 41 runs in their last two games.

Indiana (23-6, 2-3) pounded out 15 hits, including four home runs, and scored in every inning except the eighth. The Hoosiers took and early lead with 11 runs in the first four innings off of Purdue starter Russ Morgan (1-3). Morgan lasted four innings, allowing eight hits, while walking seven and striking out six.

The Boilers had 10 hits and were led offensively by freshman Travis Dorsch. After entering the game defensively in the fourth inning, Dorsch went 2-for-2 at the plate with a single, double and one RBI. Senior Ryan Bettencourt also had two hits for Purdue.

Right-hander Jason Torres (3-0) earned the win for Indiana. He struck out 12 in eight innings while walking four.

The series continues with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Sembower Field.
