WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue baseball team improved to 20-22 on the season with a 6-0 shutout victory over Xavier on Wednesday at Lambert Field.
Four Purdue pitchers combined to shutout the Muskateers on five hits. Freshman Travis Dorsch (2-0) picked up the victory, allowing four hits in six innings. Juniors Jeremy Ballard and Russ Morgan and sophomore David Gassner combined to throw three scoreless innings of relief, striking out five.
Offensively, juniors Chris Walker and Daryl Hallada and senior Ryan Cole each had two hits. Junior Erik Frei went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
James Siefker (1-2) picked up the loss for Xavier, allowing four runs on four hits in five innings. Left fielder Matt Watson led the Muskateers with two hits.
The Boilers return to Big Ten action this weekend with a four-game series against No. 19 Ohio State from April 30-May 2 in Columbus, Ohio.
