WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Denny Miller, director of sports medicine at Purdue, has announced the 2000-01 Newell-Combs Scholarship recipients.
They are seniors Courtney Mulvihill (Crown Point, Ind.), Melissa Springer (Kokomo, Ind.) and Erin Taube (Fort Wayne, Ind.). Each is majoring in athletic training and will receive $1000.
"All three of these students have consistently exhibited the qualities of Pinky Newell and Bill Combs," Miller said. "They excel academically and have been superior performers in the clinical education part of their academic major. In addition, they exhibit loyalty, enthusiasm and desire to excel that was so admired by the scholarship namesakes."
Newell was longtime athletic trainer for the Boilermakers, while Combs served as team physican. Both are members of the Purdue Athletic Hall of Fame.
