Moya Named Spirit Coordinator Cheerleading, mascot coach among his responsibilities

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Elvis Moya has been appointed spirit coordinator for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Moya, former head cheerleading coach and administrative assistant at Elmira College in New York, will serve as cheerleading and mascot coach in addition to working with Intercollegiate Athletics staff, pep bands and student spirit groups at football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball games, and special events.

Moya led the Elmira College cheerleaders to a sixth-place finish at the National Cheerleaders Association competition in Daytona Beach, Fla., this spring.

A native of Shamrock, Texas, Moya graduated in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in mass communications from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. While attending Texas Tech, he served as a cheerleader for two years and as student spirit director.

Prior to Texas Tech, he attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where he cheered for two years and competed in the NCA competition. In 1999, he was named the Texans' Outstanding Freshman Cheerleader of the Year.

Moya has judged numerous competitions, and in February 2003 served as a panel judge for the American Cheer Power All-Star National Competition held in San Antonio, Texas. This spring, Moya was named to the Advisory Board of Cheerleading, Dance and Drill Magazine.
