Intercollegiate Athletics Honors Closest Friends Diamond P presentations high point of John Purdue Club Weekend

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The annual John Purdue Weekend came to a close on Saturday with the John Purdue Open, the Boilermaker Celebrity Scramble and the recognition of three John Purdue Club members with the highest honor bestowed on Boilermaker backers, the "Diamond P."

Ray Brummett of Brookston, Ind., Denny Miller of West Lafayette, Ind., and Dick Shively of Santa Fe, N.M., were honored at the John Purdue Open dinner at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Course following the day's events.

The Celebrity Scramble featured a number of former Purdue student-athletes, including Steve Scheffler, who was also the keynote speaker at the evening's dinner, Chukie Nwokorie, Billy Keller, Bernie Flowers, Joe Sexson, Steve Reid, Stephanie (White) McCarty, Jane (Calhoun) Schott, Issac Jones, Jermaine Ross, Edwin Watson, Bob Ford, Forest Farmer, Jim Beirne, Adrian Beasley, Ray Wallace and Doug Sharp, and former pole vaulter turned Olympian bobsled bronze medalist.

Brummett has been a John Purdue Club member since 1975 and has employed hundreds of student-athletes over the years at Brummett Farms in Brookston.

Miller is the director of sports medicine at Purdue and has given 30 years of service to Purdue athletics. He resides in West Lafayette with his wife, Linda. They have two daughters, Nicole and Natalie.

Shively, another longtime supporter, has been a member of the John Purdue Club for 34 years. His most recent actions to benefit Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics include major gifts to both the Boilermaker Aquatic Center and the Ross-Ade Stadium renovation project.
