PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Forty-one Purdue student-athletes received recognition for their academic achievements as the Big Ten Conference released the Fall Sports Academic All-Conference list today.
The women's soccer team saw 16 players garner accolades, the most of any Purdue sport. The Sun Bowl-bound football team had 14 athletes make the list, while men's and women's cross country both added four to the tally and volleyball had three honorees.
The Big Ten honored 557 fall sport athletes, an increase of 43 over last year's total. The list featured 53 men's and 76 women's cross country runners, 50 field hockey players, 137 football players, 54 men's and 113 women's soccer players, and 74 volleyball players. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average of 3.0 or better.
Soccer player Lori Arnold, a sophomore management major was honored for her perfect GPA, while John Standeford of the football team was touted for receiving first team Verizon Academic All-America honors.
