WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Christine (Chris) Ferrer has been named Academic Support Services Director for the Purdue athletic department. She will assume her position Aug. 1.

"I am excited to welcome an academic administrator of Chris' caliber into the Purdue University family," associate athletic director Roger Blalock said. "A key goal of our administration and our coaches is to see every student-athlete complete their educational and degree objectives. Chris' will undoubtedly be able to lead us in that endeavor."

"Purdue's athletic department is first-rate, and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with the coaching staff, student-athletes and administration," Ferrer said.

Ferrer is no stranger to Purdue. She has served as the Director of Counseling for the School of Liberal Arts (SLA) since 1995. She served as an academic advisor in the SLA from 1990-95, and filled the role of interim co-director of the SLA from January to June of 1995.

Ferrer earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Indiana in 1977, and a master's degree in sports administration from Eastern Kentucky in 1978. She played varsity field hockey for the Hoosiers and served as team captain her senior year.
