Boilers Set for USATF Junior Nationals Fitzpatric and Rorem will represent Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Ryan Fitzpatric and Katie Rorem, members of the Purdue men's and women's track and field teams, will be representing the Boilermakers at the 1999 USA Track & Field Junior National Championships June 19-20 in Denton, Texas. More than 800 athletes from across the country are expected to compete in this national championship for those 19 years of age or younger.

Fitzpatric, a Cincinnati native who just completed his freshman year at Purdue, placed third in the high jump at the 1999 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships, clearing a personal-best 7-00.25. He tied for eighth in the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships. His best performance of the outdoor season came at the Billy Hayes Invitational, where he cleared 6-11.50 to place fourth. Fitzpatric will battle against 14 athletes for the high jump title June 20.

Rorem, who hails from Huntington Beach, Calif., also just completed her freshman year for the Big Ten outdoor champion women's team. Rorem placed fourth in the pole vault in the conference meet, which was hosted by Purdue, clearing 11-05.75. Rorem is one of 26 competitors challenging for a pole vault crown June 19.
