May 23, 2018
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The NCAA announced Wednesday that for the seventh straight year all 18 Purdue teams are above the 930 Academic Progress Rate (APR) cutoff.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.
Eight squads maintained or improved their multi-year rate from a year ago: men's basketball (965 vs. 960), women's basketball (989 vs. 985), men's golf (986 vs. 981), women's golf (1,000 vs. 989), soccer (remained 989), women's swimming & diving (998 vs. 989), volleyball (remained 1,000) and wrestling (981 vs. 975).
The overall department score was 978.
Thirteen Purdue teams had perfect 1,000 scores for the current year: baseball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, soccer, softball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track & field, and volleyball.
Last week, volleyball received its 13th consecutive (every year of the program) public recognition award for posting a multi-year APR score in the top 10 percent of its sport. Women's golf was recognized for the same achievement for the first time.
The APR measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes. The most-recent APR scores are multi-year rates - or a rolling four-year average - based on the scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
Purdue student-athletes regularly perform equal to or better than the student body.
