Big Ten Announces All Academic Team Thirty-four Boilermakers receive honor

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - As the winter term of the 2000-01 school year comes to a close, the Big Ten recognized a total of 397 winter sports student-athletes who have been named to Academic All-Conference Team. The list honored 34 Purdue athletes from the men's and women's basketball teams, as well as the men's and women's swimming and diving and wrestling teams.

Two Boilermakers received special recognition for their academic success. Kelly Mackus of the swimming and diving team maintained the highest grade point average for Purdue with a 3.92 in communication and advertising. From the women's basketball, Katie Douglas achieved excellence on the field. The senior guard/forward earned conference Player of the Year honors and was named a first team All-American while carrying a 3.50 GPA in public relations.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career GPA of 3.0 or better.
