Big Ten Academic All-Conference Team Released

Big Ten Academic All-Conference Team Released Men's cross country and football lead the way.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Big Ten released the fall term Academic All-Conference team yesterday with the Purdue men's cross country and football teams leading the way for the school. Each squad had a total of eight representatives qualify for the team. Purdue's five fall sports football, men's and women's cross country, women's soccer and volleyball had a record total of 25 representatives named to the scholastic honor breaking last years mark of 22.

Along with the men's cross country and football honorees the women's cross country team placed five student athletes on the team and women's volleyball had four members qualify. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten, an athlete must be a letter winner in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade point average of 3.0 or better. Those who qualified from each sport are:

From men's cross country, Brad Bernhardt (Indianapolis, Ind., Ben Davis H.S.), Chris Boesch (Frankfort, Ind., Clinton Prairie H.S.), Tito Downer (Carmel, Ind., Carmel H.S.) Donnie Fellows (Mercer Island, Wash., Mercer Island H.S.) Geoff Fleming (Roseville Calif., Roseville H.S.), Mike Hall (Albany, Ind., Delta H.S.), Andrew Keffaber (Wabash, Ind., Northfield H.S.) and Brian Metzger (Silver Creek, Nev., Silver Creek Central H.S.).

From football, Adrian Beasley (Atlanta, Georgia, Douglass H.S.), Drew Brees (Austin, Texas, Westlake H.S.), Aaron Bunten (Danville, Ind., Brownsburg H.S.), Chris Clopton (Lynwood, Ill, Thornton Fractional South H.S.), David Cohen (Ballwin, Missouri, Lafayet H.S.), Noble Jones (Atlanta, Georgia, Douglass H.S.), Ray Lee (Indianapolis, Ind., Cathedral H.S.) and Robert Tolbert (Memphis, Tenn., Whitehaven H.S.).

From women's cross country Angela Draper (Terre Haute, Ind., North H.S. ), Sarah Hiple (Champaign, Ill., Champaign Centennial H.S.), Christine Mueller (Villa Park, Ill., Willowbrook H.S.), Nicole Nigh (Schereville, Ind., Lake Central H.S.) and Ann Stechschlte (Columbus Grove, Ohio, Bluffton H.S.).

From women's volleyball, Taryn Catlin (Fullerton, Calif., Sunny Hills H.S.), Christi Kelsey (Eaton, Ind., Delta H.S.) Connie Paul (Baroda, Mich., Lakeshore H.S.) and Jennie Williams (Marysville, Mich., Marysville H.S.).
