Sept. 16, 1999

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Former All-American quarterback Mark Herrmann is among five new members appointed to the Purdue Athletic Advisory Council by Athletic Director Morgan Burke.

The advisory council of 24 former student-athletes was formed by University President Dr. Steven Beering and Burke in 1993 and meets annually to discuss all aspects of Boilermaker athletics from development, marketing and publicity to facilities to alumni and fan relations. With representatives from 16 of 18 varsity programs, the council also provides a link between current and former student-athletes.

Herrmann led Purdue to three-straight bowl victories from 1978, '79 and '80 before an 11-year NFL career. He was inducted into the Purdue Athletic Hall of Fame last year and currently serves as a financial advisor for Paine Webber in his hometown of Indianapolis. Herrmann is joined by former Boilermaker standouts Billy Keller, Bob Dillingham, Dr. Sue Bartz and Barbara Meeker-Risk in beginning their four-year term at an annual meeting to be held in conjunction with P-Awards weekend each fall, which this year is Sept. 24-25.

The actual meeting will be held on Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. until noon in the Conference Room of Mackey Arena. Council members are encouraged to participate in the P-Award Golf Outing later in the afternoon as well as attending the Purdue-Northwestern football game the following day.

Billy Keller, currently President of Billy Keller Basketball Camps, Inc., was a three-year starter for the Boilermakers, 1967-69, and won three ABA championships with the Indiana Pacers. Dillingham was a wide receiver on the 1967 Rose Bowl championship team before going on to a career in psychology in which he is now a career development consultant for Eli Lilly in Indianapolis. Bartz was an Academic All-American in 1981 and '82 while playing forward for the Boilers' women basketball team from 1979 thru '82. She is now a veterinarian for the Companion Animal Hospital in Indianapolis. Meeker-Risk, a physical therapist and certified athletic trainer in Blue Ash, Ohio, was a two-time GTE Academic All-American selection while playing volleyball for Purdue, 1985-88.

Kevin Gregory, currently a WRTV weather forecaster for the ABC affiliate in Indianapolis, was appointed to the Athletic Advisory Council earlier in the year and began his four-year term this past February. Gregory captained the Purdue tennis team, 1985-87 and won All-Big Ten honors in '85 and '86.
