Ackerman Hills To Open For Play Golf course opens on Thursday

March 12, 2003

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ackerman Hills golf course of Purdue's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex will be opening on Thursday, March 13, for the spring season.

In the off-season, the 18-hole course underwent changes to the No. 17 tee box. A few trees were added and trimmed to enhance the ambiance.

"We're opening a little later than usual, but the weather has not cooperated very much so far," said head golf professional Doug Hill. "This past Saturday, we got a lot of calls about when we were opening. It was still a little too early to open up. We want to make sure that when people play our courses, they have a great experience."

The Kampen Course, site of the 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Championships in May, will likely open within the next two weeks.

"We are being a little more careful with the Kampen Course," said Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex Superintendent Jim Scott. "With the championships coming in May, we don't want to do anything to damage the course, but it's getting close."

The Birck driving range is currently open to the public.

"We are excited about getting people back out here to play," said Hill. "We hope the weather gives us plenty of days during the rest of the spring."
