Season Notes
• Went 2-2 at first NCAA Championships ... put up a pair of takedowns in the first period on his way to a 7-4 upset of No. 14 Zach Hartman of Bucknell in the first round ... Parriott built riding time the third period and his 1:09 gave him a cushion against a late reversal by the Bison.
• Dropped into wrestlebacks after second round loss to eventual All-American Ryan Deakin of Northwestern ... rebounded with 6-2 win over No. 13 Jarrett Jacques of Missouri ... got off to his notable quick start, taking the Tiger down in the opening minute and added another takedown midway through the third period.
• Pittsburgh’s No. 12 Taleb Rahmani vindicated his Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational semifinals loss to Parriott with a pin in sudden victory (7:10) in the third round of wrestlebacks ... the two went to the extra session with each having an escape to their credit despite a flurry of action throughout regulation.
• Clinched the ninth and final 157-pound automatic bid from the Big Ten to the NCAA Championships with a 5-2 decision over No. 8 Eric Barone of Illinois ... avenged first-round 5-4 (TB1) loss to Barone when it mattered most.

• Won five consecutive matches on two occasions.
• Missed time at the start of the season and at South Beach Duals due to injury.
• Unranked as the No. 8 seed, Parriott tore through the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational bracket finishing as the 157-pound runner-up ... he knocked out a pair of top-five seeds who are also ranked in the top 10 ... Parriott entered the tournament with just one match under his belt and put together five straight wins, the longest winning streak of his young career.
• Parriott upset top-seeded and third-ranked Tyler Berger of Nebraska 4-2 in sudden victory in the CKLV quarterfinals ... 28 seconds into sudden victory, Parriott dropped Berger on his back for the winning takedown ... Parriott took a 2-1 lead at the start of the third period with a reversal and Berger evened it at 2-2 with an escape.
• Parriott’s upset of Berger stands as the highest ranked opponent he has beaten in his career and the highest ranked opponent defeated by any Purdue wrestler this season ... furthermore, it is the highest ranked opponent beaten by an unranked Boilermaker since 2015 ... unranked Doug Welch (157) beat No. 2 James Green of Nebraska 5-4 (TB1) on Jan. 9, 2015 ... it was program’s biggest upset since 165-pounder Luke Manuel upended top-ranked and top-seeded Mack Lewnes of Cornell 3-1 in the first round of consolations at the 2009 NCAA Championships—although Manuel was unseeded at NCAAs, he was ranked 15th when he beat Lewnes ... unranked Chad Welch pinned fourth-ranked Cooper Moore of Northern Iowa in 2:25 in the CKLV 165-pound quarterfinals on Dec. 4, 2015.
• In the CKLV semifinals, a takedown with 32 seconds remaining in the third period propelled Parriott past fifth-seeded and eighth-ranked Taleb Rahmani of Pittsburgh 5-3
• Made his national ranking debut at No. 9 following CKLV ... it was the highest individual ranking since Chad Welch finished the 2015-16 season at No. 8 at 165.
• Wild scrambles were the focal point of a battle between No. 12 Parriott and No. 11 Alec Pantaleo of Michigan in the Jan. 20 dual ... Parriott struck first with an early takedown and he added an escape to start the second period to hold a 3-1 advantage ... with 20 seconds remaining in the frame, Pantaleo found a double-leg that Parriott attempted to roll though, but the takedown was awarded and it evened the match at 3-3 ... an escape to start the third proved to be the winning point for Pantaleo with a 4-3 decision.
• A Parriott takedown in the first period held in a 3-2 win over No. 14 John Van Brill of Rutgers.
