• Tabbed as the first alternate at the NCAA Championships, an injury forced another heavyweight qualifier to withdraw and Aven was added to the 33-man bracket.
• Won a pair of NCAA matches in wrestlebacks, beating Ohio’s Zack Parker 10-6 ... led the entire match in a 9-5 upset of 14th-seeded and 20th-ranked AJ Nevills of Fresno State.
• Aven went from unseeded to placing eighth in his first-ever Big Ten Championships ... went 1-3 at the tournament, finishing one spot shy of earning an automatic NCAA bid ... all four of the opponents Aven faced at Big Tens were ranked in the top 10.
• Held a 1-0 lead going into the third period against eighth-seeded All-American Sam Stoll of Iowa and erupted for two monstrous takedowns in the final frame for the 5-2 upset in the second round of wrestlebacks at Big Tens ... Stoll was ranked eighth, marking the highest ranked opponent Aven has defeated in his career.
• First season as a starter, appearing in all 16 duals ... one of five Boilermakers to start every dual this season.
• Four matches were decided in SV1, three in TB1 ... is 3-1 in SV1 matches, 1-2 in TB1 matches.
• Eleven of the 17 ranked opponents Aven faced were ranked in the top 10 at the time of the meeting, which was the most top-10 opponents faced by a Purdue wrestler this season.
• Aven faced four Team USA age-group world team members, three of which have medaled: Zach Elam, Missouri; Youssif Hemida, Maryland; Anthony Cassar, Penn State; Gable Stevenson, Minnesota.
• Defeated No. 13 Elam 5-2 in the first set of tiebreakers at the South Beach Duals ... tied at 1-1, Missouri unsuccessfully challenged an Aven reversal as time expired in the first 30-second tiebreaker, putting the Boilermaker ahead 3-1 ... following an Elam escape in the next 30-second tiebreaker, Aven scored the winning takedown with just a few seconds remaining on the clock ... win was Aven’s first over a ranked opponent.
• A first period takedown held for Aven in a 3-2 win over Haydn Maley of Stanford, securing the dual victory for Purdue with two bouts remaining.
• Clinched the dual victory for Purdue by defeating Michigan State’s Chase Beard 6-4 in sudden victory ... tied 4-4 with each wrestler scoring a takedown and a pair of escapes ... Aven’s winning takedown came with 16 seconds left.
