Tickets Opens in a new window
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue and Butler volleyball programs will meet for the first time in 19 years, clashing in Indianapolis on Tuesday, September 9 at 7 p.m. ET. The match will be played at Hinkle Fieldhouse with tickets on sale now through Ticketmaster.

It is the second non-conference match announced ahead of the upcoming season, joining the previously revealed Broadway Block Party event set for August 31 vs. Tennessee at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Purdue's full non-conference and Big Ten schedule will be released at a later date.

Purdue, led by head coach Dave Shondell (23rd season) and Butler, guided by Kyle Shondell (third season), will mark the first official meeting between the father and son duo while at their respective programs and the first between the two programs since 2005.

The Boilermakers and Bulldogs have met only seven times in program history, with Purdue holding the 4-3 edge. The upcoming match will mark the third time the in-state battle will take place in Indianapolis.

Purdue went 5-0 in their 2025 spring season, winning 17 of its 19 sets played, taking wins over Butler (4-0), Miami (Ohio) (3-0), Loyola Chicago (3-1), Vanderbilt (4-0) and Ball State (3-1).

Coming off one of its best seasons in program history with a 27-7 (16-4 Big Ten) record and a fourth-place finish in the league standings, the Boilermakers return 2024 Second Team All-Big Ten honoree Taylor Anderson, who not only ranked No. 8 in the nation in assists per set (11.25), but guided Purdue to its third-highest hitting % in single-season history (.280%). In addition to returning rising stars, which include Kenna WollardRyan McAleer and Grace Heaney, Shondell's incoming freshmen and transfer class set Purdue up to tie the tallest team in over 22 years, with an average front court height of 6'2".
