ROSEMONT, Ill. – As Purdue Baseball's team leaders in home runs and RBI at the plate and strikeouts on the mound, Logan Sutter and Michael Vallone represented the Boilermakers on the All-Big Ten teams as selected by the league coaches.
Sutter and Vallone were both recognized as second-team all-conference honors – Sutter at first base and Vallone as a relief pitcher. Vallone was also the program's designated Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
This year marks the first time since Purdue's 2012 Big Ten championship season that the Boilermakers had both a position player and pitcher selected for the second team or higher. Vallone is Purdue's first relief pitcher recognized as All-Big Ten since 2019. It's the third year in a row – and fifth time since 2016 – a first baseman has been named All-Big Ten for the Boilermakers.
Through the end of the regular season, Sutter was top five in the Big Ten in doubles (22), RBI (62), slugging percentage (.709) and OPS (1.180). He eclipsed Purdue's single-season record for double (21) that had stood since 2001.
Vallone won the pitching triple crown for the Boilermakers with 70 strikeouts, four victories and a 3.86 ERA while pitching 58 1/3 innings (third on the team) over his 21 appearances (19 in relief). He was one of four Purdue pitchers with four victories. The lefty averaged 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings vs. 7.6 hits per nine innings while also posting a team-best 4.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Among qualifying pitchers, Vallone ranked second in the Big Ten in K/9 and fifth in WHIP (1.11).
Sutter was the only Boilermaker to play in all 54 games, making 47 of his 54 starts at first base. Vallone took the mound during all 14 weekends, making two appearances in four different weekends series and also pitching in three midweek games. Purdue went 13-8 in games in which Vallone pitched and he was the losing pitcher in the official decision only once.
Sutter transferred to Purdue in the summer of 2023 from Folsom Lake College, a junior college in Northern California. Vallone joined the Boilermakers this past fall as a graduate transfer from DePauw University (Greencastle, Ind.), where he was an NCAA Division III All-American. They were among the 17 Boilermakers to receive degrees last week at the annual commencement ceremony at Alexander Field.
