Edey Named to NBA All-Rookie First Team

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Former Purdue All-American and two-time National Player of the Year Zach Edey has been named to the NBA's All-Rookie first team, the NBA announced today.
 
Edey ranked fourth in voting behind Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle (San Antonio), Zaccharie Risacher (Atlanta) and teammate Jaylen Wells (Memphis). Edey was named on all 100 ballots, earning 73 votes on the first team and 27 votes on the second team.
 
Washington's Alex Sarr was the final member of the first team.
 
Risacher (1st) and Castle (4th) were the only players selected ahead of Edey who picked up more points than Edey's 173 total voting points.
 
Edey had an outstanding rookie season after being selected ninth by the Memphis Grizzlies. Edey ranked ninth among rookies in scoring (9.2 PPG), first in rebounding (8.3), third in blocked shots per game (1.3) and first in win shares (4.9) while appearing in 66 games with 55 starts. Edey shot 58.0 percent from the field, 70.9 percent from the free throw line and made 18-of-52 (.346) from long distance.
 
Edey is one-of-two rookies in NBA history to average at least 9.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting at least 58.0 percent from the field and 70.0 percent from the free throw line.
 
Edey recorded 12 double-doubles on the season and had six games of at least 15 rebounds. One of his best performances came in a win over the Detroit Pistons with six points, 21 rebounds and six assists.
 
Edey finished his Purdue career as the school's all-time leading scorer (2,516 points) and rebounder (1,321 rebounds). He was named the two-time unanimous Player of the Year, leading Purdue to 63 wins during his final two years and a spot in the National Championship game in 2024.
