CARLSBAD, Calif. – Stepping up in the biggest tournament of the season, freshman Samantha Brown fired an even-par 72 to lead Purdue Women's Golf during the second round of the 2025 NCAA Championships. The Boilermaker moved 44 spots up the individual leaderboard, shaving seven strokes off her opening tally for Purdue's best round of the tournament through 36 holes at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa.
While Brown soared up the leaderboard on moving day, the 29th-seeded Boilermakers (+31) remained in 26th place as a team, tied alongside Baylor. Stanford proved why it is the No. 1 team in the country, using a 10-under 278 to jump up 10 spots into first and hold a five-shot lead over No. 11 Northwestern (E).
After eight pars and a lone bogey at the fourth on the front side, Brown started the back nine with back-to-back birdies. She rolled in an eight-foot birdie putt on the par-5 10th before a perfect drive led to another birdie on the short, par-4 11th. The Westfield, Indiana, native made only one more bogey coming in as conditions got tougher, carding a 1-under 35 on the final nine to play the par-72 course even for the day.
Momo Sugiyama shot 75 (+3) and leads all Boilermakers on the individual leaderboard. At 4-over par through the first two rounds, the senior is tied for 53rd. Playing in the last group on the course Saturday, she drained a downhill putt on No. 18 for birdie to push Purdue into a tie with Baylor.
Natasha Kiel added a 78 (+6) for the second straight day, while fellow senior Jocelyn Bruch carded a 79 (+7) as part of the team score.
With 18 holes left before the field is cut down to 15 teams, Purdue needs a low round on Sunday to see its season continue. The Boilermakers begin the third round on the back nine with Baylor and No. 14 Ole Miss (+28), beginning at 4:07 p.m. ET.
