WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Logan Sutter's team-record 22nd double of the season came in his penultimate at-bat on Senior Day at Alexander Field, a bright spot for Purdue Baseball in a 14-2 rubber game loss to Nebraska on Saturday.

The Huskers (28-27, 15-15 Big Ten) raced out to an early 8-0 lead as the Boilermakers (31-23, 11-19 Big Ten) faced a significant deficit in a rubber game for the second weekend in a row.

Sutter tied the program record, which had stood since 2001, with his 21st double on May 6 in the win vs. Ball State. In the fifth inning Saturday, he hit a line drive through the middle of the infield and slicing just far enough into left center that he recognized it was his opportunity to go for a hustle double and the record. He slid in safely at second base just ahead of the throw to officially claim sole possession of the benchmark.

Sutter finished the day 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch and later a single in his final at-bat. His 1.180 OPS this season ranks as the fourth best by a Boilermaker this century and he's just the second Purdue player of this century to post a 1.000-plus OPS in consecutive campaigns. Sutter's 139 total bases this season rank third on the program's single-season leaderboard.

Senior Keenan Spence singled three times and drew a walk, driving in both of Purdue's runs with two-out singles in the third and fifth innings.

Brandon Anderson scored on Spence's first RBI single, crossing home plate for the 60th time this season. He became just the fourth Boilermaker to score 60 runs while moving into a tie for third place on the program's single-season list.

Eli Anderson opened the game with a bunt base hit to extend his team-best hit streak to 13 consecutive games, which he will carry into his senior season in 2026.

STREAKS EXTENDED
Eli Anderson: 13-game hit overall; 10-game hit in Big Ten play; 10-game on-base at home; 8-game hit at home
Brandon Anderson: 10-game on-base at home

After using just five pitchers over the first 18 innings of the series, nine men took the mound for Purdue on Saturday. Senior Chris Gallagher was the most effective, striking out two of the four batters he faced while posting a zero in the fifth inning. It was his first appearance since April 8.

As the longest-tenured member of the program, closer Avery Cook got the biggest ovation when he left the mound in the top of the eighth after making his Big Ten-leading 28th appearance of the season and 72nd career. Cook worked a hitless seventh inning against the heart of the Huskers' lineup.

Lukas Cook went hitless Saturday but still finished the season with a .385 (55-for-143) batting average, a .250-point improvement over his .135 clip (7-for-52) in 2023. He missed all of the 2024 season due to Tommy John Surgery. Cook's average ranks 11th on Purdue's single-season leaderboard (minimum 100 at-bats) as the best mark by a Boilermaker since 2009.

As part of the annual Senior Day, the Boilermakers honored 17 seniors before the game for their contributions to Purdue Baseball. Eli Anderson, Aaron Manias, Houston Russell and starting pitcher Easton Storey represent the players in Saturday's starting lineup that are expected to return for the 2026 season.
