EUGENE, Ore. – Cameron Miller breaks his own 200m school record and Collin Kao reaches the pole vault podium to lead Purdue Outdoor Track & Field on day one of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships.
 
Men's Notes
• Miller ran 20.12 (+0.9) to sit atop the 200m prelims performances and shattered his previous school record of 20.25. The time moved Miller to No. 4 in the NCAA this season. He will look to defend his Big Ten 200m outdoor title in the finals on Sunday at 5:26 p.m. ET.
• Kao finished eighth in the pole vault (5.19m / 17-00.25) to earn Purdue's first team point. It is Kao's first time scoring at outdoor Big Tens.
Andreas Hantson sits second in the decathlon (3,994 points) after the first five events of the competition. He took the high jump event victory (2.05m / 6-08.75) and finished third in the long jump (7.32m / 24-00.25). Competition resumes on Saturday morning at 12:30 p.m. ET.
Hugh Jacobsmeyer finished 13th in the 1500m prelims (3:47.43) in the first individual postseason race of his collegiate career.
 
Women's Notes
Jalen Elrod is eighth in the heptathlon with 3,267 points through the first four events. She capped the first day with a personal-best 23.91 in the 200m to finish third in the event. Competition resumes on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
Payne Turney finished 11th in the 10,000m in 34:01.87 falling just over four seconds shy of her personal best. It was the second 10,000m of her career.
Caroline Jordan ran a personal-best 34:49.86 in the 10,000m to increase her program ranking one spot to No. 6.
