WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Baseball closes out the regular season at home for the seventh consecutive season, realistically needing three victories to have an opportunity to qualify for the Big Ten Tournament as Nebraska comes to town in May for the second time in three years.

First pitch at Alexander Field is set for Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m., and Saturday at 2 p.m. The Boilermakers have 17 players that will be recognized this weekend – receiving their diplomas Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the annual commencement ceremony at Alexander and being honored for their contributions to Purdue Baseball as part of Senior Day on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Entering the weekend, the Boilermakers (10-17 Big Ten) are two games behind the three teams (Illinois, Michigan State, Northwestern) tied for 11th place in the Big Ten standings at 12-15. The top 12 qualify for the expanded Big Ten Tournament next week in Omaha. A sweep of Nebraska (13-14) would allow Purdue to pull even with the Huskers in the standings while also earning a tiebreaker.

Rutgers (13-14) and Maryland (11-16) are also in the heart of the Big Ten Tournament chase and play each other this weekend in College Park, which does not help Purdue's cause as UMD is one game ahead while also currently outside the top 12. If the Boilers drop a game this weekend, they can no longer catch Rutgers and Nebraska in the standings. In that one-loss scenario, they would need MSU and Northwestern to be swept this weekend to still have a chance to qualify (in part because Purdue would have head-to-head tiebreakers). Illinois owns a head-to-head tiebreaker vs. the Boilers and plays at last-place Ohio State this weekend.

Avery Cook is the longest-tenured member of Purdue's senior class, originally joining the program in the fall of 2020. He has pitched in 52 games over the last two seasons as workhorse in the bullpen, ranking sixth in team history with 70 career appearance. He leads the Big Ten in appearances and is second to Nebraska's Luke Broderick (10) with nine saves, the most by a Boilermaker since Ross Learnard set the program's single-season record (15) in 2018.

Carter Doorn and Ty Gill have followed the traditional four-year path, coming to campus from Northwest Indiana and contributing all four seasons. Doorn has served as the Friday starter in the rotation as a senior after being the relief ace in Big Ten play (0.45 ERA, 0.65 WHIP) as a junior. Gill is a two-year starter at second base with 125 career games played.

Lukas Cook is a three-year member of the program and has an opportunity to become the first Boilermaker to bat .400 for a season since 2009. Logan Sutter and Keenan Spence have been starters each of their two seasons and with 20 homers apiece have provided much of the power in the lineup the last two years as Purdue has enjoyed consecutive 30-win campaigns. Sutter needs just one double to take sole possession of the program's single-season record. He also has an opportunity to post the highest single-season OPS by a Boilermaker this century. Camden Gasser is a two-year starter at shortstop who led the Big Ten in walks and on-base percentage last year. Gasser (2024) and Lukas Cook (2025) have both represented Purdue on the Brooks Wallace Award watch list during their time at Alexander Field.

During their current run of annually closing out the regular season at home, the Boilermakers have hosted Michigan (2018), Ohio State (2019), Maryland (2022), Nebraska (2023), Illinois (2024) and a three-team pod that featured Minnesota and Penn State (2021). This year they'll need to match the 2018 team's sweep of U-M to have a realistic shot at extending the season.
