WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Baseball closes out its 11-game midweek schedule with its first trip to Muncie since 2019, matching up with Ball State on a Tuesday for the second week in a row.
First pitch at the newly renamed Shebek Stadium (formerly the Ball Diamond) is set for 3 p.m. ET.
The Boilermakers are 7-3 in midweek action this season, the last nine such games being played at Alexander Field after they opened their weekday non-conference slate with a March 4 victory at Indiana State. Aaron Manias (grand slam), Brandon Anderson (2-run homer), Logan Sutter (3-for-4, 2 RBI), Eli Andrson (3 RBI) and Joe Trenerry (2 2/3 innings of one-hit relief) led the way in last week's win vs. Ball State.
A victory Tuesday would allow Purdue to match its win total in midweek play from the last two seasons combined. Purdue has not posted eight midweek victories in a season since the 2012 Big Ten championship team was 9-0 as part of a 17-game midweek win streak across the 2011 and 2012 campaigns.
The 2019 season also marked the last time the Boilermakers and Cardinals played an in-season midweek home and home, with the home team taking both meetings.
Purdue's last victory in Muncie came in thrilling fashion as Harry Shipley's inside-the-park three-run homer powered a five-run ninth inning. The Boilermakers rallied for a 10-8 victory, their 13th straight win during a memorable 21-2 hot stretch that propelled Purdue into the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament and an NCAA Regional.
Ball State is 14-4 at home this season, with Kent State (2), Illinois State and Toledo being the only visiting teams to win in Muncie. The Cardinals' rubber game victory at Ohio on Sunday was their 34th win, tied with KSU for the most in the Mid-American Conference. Ball State is a game back of co-leaders Kent State and Miami (Ohio) in the MAC standings and hosts Miami this weekend for a big series.
