WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 53 Purdue women's team feel in sweeping fashion to the Big Ten leader and No. 3-ranked Michigan Wolverines, 0-4, inside Schwartz Tennis Center.
The result marked just the second loss of the season at home for the Boilermakers as the squad moves to10-6 (4-5 Big Ten). Meanwhile Michigan improves to 17-3 (10-0 Big Ten).
In doubles, the pair of Fatima Gutierrez and Ashlie Wilson took on the No. 67-ranked duo of Julia Fliegner and Reese Miller, fighting hard as the score was tied 5-5 before going unfinished.
The Boilermakers faced four top-71 ranked singles players, including Carmen Gallardo Guevara facing the No.4-ranked Fliegner at the No. 1 singles position and Ida Clement facing the No. 29 ranked Piper Charney. Both fought hard, with Gallardo Guevara leading 4-2 in the second set before the match went unfinished. Freshman Ece Gencer led the Boilermakers with a Set 1 win at the No. 4 spot, which ultimately went unfinished as well.
Two weeks remain in Purdue's regular season. The Boilermakers will hit the road next week to take on No.19 Wisconsin on Friday at 5 p.m. ET and Minnesota on Sunday at Noon.
