WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team returns to West Lafayette this weekend, aiming to extend their perfect 9-0 home record. The Boilermakers face Michigan State on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET in Purdue's Wimbledon Day, which will feature fanny pack and hair bow giveaways and free strawberries and cream for fans in attendance. Fans also are encouraged to come dressed in Wimbledon attire. Then on Sunday, Purdue will take on No. 3 Michigan at Noon ET.

THINGS TO KNOW:
  • No. 56 Purdue women's tennis senior Carmen Gallardo Guevara secured her 78th career singles victory in Purdue's 4-3 win at Oregon last Sunday. With the win, Gallardo Guevara moved to tie as seventh all-time in program history for most singles wins, while Purdue picked up its first road victory of the season.
  • The gutsy win at Oregon came down to the final court, clinched by freshman Ida Clement's third set tiebreak victory's 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6) vs. Oregon's Karin Young. The Boilermaker came from behind in the tiebreak, evening the game 6-6 before going on to win the final two points.
  • Fatima Gutierrez continued her momentum into the match at Oregon, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead against Tilde Jagar. The Boilermaker went on to win the match 6-2, 6-3, marking her third victory in the last four matches.
LOOKING AHEAD:
  • #58 Michigan State women's tennis upset No. 44-ranked Northwestern 4-2 on Friday evening, with the Spartans battling back multiple times to claim a valiant victory over the Wildcats. This marks Michigan State's third upset win of the month.
  • Purdue will look to extend their series lead over the Michigan State Spartans, which currently stands at 37-16, with their most recent matchup taking place on March 30, 2024, in East Lansing, Mich., where the Boilermakers won 4-1.
  • Michigan stayed at No. 3 in this week's ITA rankings following a pair of home wins last weekend. U-M has been in the top six of the rankings since the computer rankings started on Feb. 20. The Wolverines have faced 10 teams currently ranked in the top 25. ● The University of Michigan has won 36 straight Big Ten regular-season matches, dating back to the 2021-22 season. U-M knocked off Illinois and Northwestern this past weekend at the Varsity Tennis Center.
  • The Boilermakers currently have an all-time record of 13-51 against the University of Michigan, with their last victory occurring in April 2012 in Columbus, Ohio.
