Purdue Earns 9 Event Victories at Fighting Illini Twilight

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Purdue Outdoor Track & Field took victories in nine events, six by the women's team and three by the men's side, at the Fighting Illini Twilight.
 
Men's Notes
Cameron Miller ran a wind-legal 20.29 in his first 200m of the outdoor season and ranks seventh in the country overall. It ranks fourth among wind-legal times. He fell just 0.04 seconds shy of tying his program record set last season.
• The men's 4x100m relay team of Nolan Macklin, Miller, Jahn Riley and Antoine Spencer ran 39.35 to move up to No. 19 in the country and No. 3 in the Big Ten. The time also entered Purdue's program rankings at No. 3.
Bode Gilkerson took the first victory of his outdoor collegiate career in the high jump (2.08m / 6-09.75). He now has four victories in his career between indoor and outdoor.
Collin Kao cleared 5.18m (17-00.00) to finish third in the pole vault. It is Kao's second consecutive meet clearing at least 5.18m.
Cale Ayers (59.93m / 196-07) and Leo Maxwell (59.66m / 195-09) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the hammer throw.
Brandon Moss ran a wind-aided 10.60 in the 100m to finish third. It was his outdoor collegiate debut.
 
Women's Notes
Britannie Johnson took two victories in the shot put (15.21m/49-11.00) and discus (53.05m/174-00). Her discus moved up to fifth in school history after she entered the meet 10th. She now holds top 10 marks in both events.
Zoe Sullivan started the meet with a victory in the 100m hurdles in a wind-aided 13.19. The time moved her up to No. 14 in the NCAA East Region and No. 29 in Division I.
Alexia Smith ran her first 400m of the outdoor season and clocked 53.22 to earn the victory. She is a reigning NCAA East First Round qualifier in the 400m.  
Jila Vaden earned the long jump victory with a mark of 5.96m (19-06.75). She has now finished top three in three of her first four collegiate outdoor meets.
Elise Peckinpaugh ran 17:30.83 in the 5000m to earn the Fighting Illini Twilight victory. It was her first collegiate outdoor 5000m and the time is 22.11 seconds faster than her indoor time.
Britannia Johnson added a runner-up finish to her sister in the discus (52.97m / 173-09).
 
Thoughts From Head Coach Tony Miller
"It was one of those meets that we just wanted to come over here and get some work done. It was a low-key meet, so our team had a chance to come down here and win some races. I saw some kids going for it, winning those races, and competing as hard as they could. I know if we continue to do that we can have a good showing at Big Tens."
