Gogel Wins Men’s Pole Vault Collegiate on Day One of Tom Jones Memorial

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Grant Gogel headlined Purdue Outdoor Track & Field's first day at the Tom Jones Memorial with his men's pole vault collegiate victory. The Boilermakers totaled four finishes in the top eight in addition to Gogel's win.
 
Men's Notes
• Gogel won his event with a personal best clearance of 5.25m (17-02.75). It was his first time clearing 5.20m and was the best clearance by a Boilermaker since Mitch Erickson cleared 5.27m (17-03.50) in 2012.
Nolan Macklin turned in his best 200m (20.92) as a Boilermaker to finish second in the collegiate section of the event. It is his third time breaking 21 seconds in his career (all wind legal).
Leo Maxwell (61.58m / 202-00) and Cale Ayers (61.46m / 201-08) had season best marks in the hammer throw to finish fifth and sixth in the collegiate section.
Bode Gilkerson cleared a season best 2.10m (6-10.75) to finish fifth in the men's high jump invite. It is the second time Gilkerson has cleared 2.10m in his outdoor career.
Collin Kao cleared a season best 5.20m (17-00.75) to finish ninth in the men's pole vault invite.
 
Women's Notes
Rebecca Caliendo had a personal best in the hammer throw (53.41m / 175-02) to lead the Boilermakers in the collegiate section of the event.
Jila Vaden finished 11th in the collegiate section of the long jump (5.93m / 19-05.50).
