WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team is back on the road this weekend, set to face No. 25 Wisconsin on Friday at 6 p.m. and Minnesota on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the penultimate week of the regular season.

THINGS TO KNOW:
  • The No. 53 Purdue women's team fell in sweeping fashion to the Big Ten leader and No. 3-ranked Michigan Wolverines, 0-4, inside Schwartz Tennis Center on Sunday.
  • The result marked just the second loss of the season at home for the Boilermakers as the team moved to 10-6 (4-5 Big Ten).
  • The Boilermakers faced four top-71 ranked singles players, including Carmen Gallardo Guevara facing the No.4-ranked Fliegner at the No. 1 singles position and Ida Clement facing the No. 29 ranked Piper Charney. Both fought hard, with Gallardo Guevara leading 4-2 in the second set before the match went unfinished. Freshman Ece Gencer led the Boilermakers with a Set 1 win at the No. 4 spot, which ultimately went unfinished as well.
  • Tara Katarina Milic's next win in doubles will catapult the senior to rank 15th in program history (59 career wins), including the eighth Boilermaker this century to post as many wins. The last Boilermakers to post as many doubles wins were Lynda Xepoleas (2012-15, 76 wins) and current assistant coach and Purdue alum Dani Vidal (2012-15, record-holder with 92 wins).
  • The next to matches mark the final road tests of the regular season, with Purdue returning home next week for the last two tests before the Big Ten tournament in Ojai, California. Purdue currently ranks No. 10 in the Big Ten standings, with the top 12 teams earning a spot in the bracket.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
  •  The No. 25 Wisconsin Badgers saw their 13-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 24 UCLA in a tightly contested battle between ranked opponents. The loss marks Wisconsin's first defeat in over two months, snapping a program-record win streak.
  • The Badgers feature two players in the ITA singles rankings: No. 7 Maria Sholokhova and No. 105 Taylor Cataldi, both of whom picked up one singles win and one singles loss during their matchups against No. 22 UCLA and No. 16 USC.
  • The Purdue women's tennis team will be striving for their first victory over Wisconsin since the 2018 season, when they secured a 5-2 win in West Lafayette.
  • In their first-ever matchup against USC in both program and Big Ten history, Minnesota fell 4-0 to the No. 16-ranked Trojans at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium, dropping to 9-12 on the season.
  • The Gophers currently lead the series against the Boilermakers with a 30-20 record, though Purdue won the most recent matchup 4-2 on April 25, 2024, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
