WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Football took the field Thursday morning for its first of three days in a row on the field.

As Thursday's practice came to an end, head coach Barry Odom announced to the team that offensive lineman Ethan Trent was officially placed on scholarship. Trent is entering his sophomore season and has taken first team reps on the offensive line throughout spring ball.

The Boilermakers' defensive ends coach, Jake Trump, joined the program with ties to Odom. He spent the last five seasons at Arkansas as defensive quality control that included a three-year stint while Odom was the Razorbacks' defensive coordinator.

Getting his chance to join the Purdue staff and gain more coaching responsibilities, Trump expressed his pleasure to the media that his defensive end group is showing.

"I couldn't be prouder of the group I have right now, to be honest," said Trump. "From the time we got here in January to now, we have taken a lot of steps forward. I'm really excited about what I have in that room."

Among those in the defensive end group are veteran transfer CJ Nunnally IV and returner Trey Smith. Nunnally brings four years of experience to West Lafayette, which included back-to-back First Team All-MAC campaigns at Akron. He spoke on the main goal for the group this upcoming season.

"Make it a nightmare for the quarterback," said Nunnally IV. "We want that quarterback to be thinking about us all day, all night, before the game and after the game. We don't want him to be comfortable. Our job is to make it uncomfortable… Even if we're not getting the sack, we still want to hit him. That's our mission."

Smith returns to the Boilermakers after appearing in nine games last season. Under the new staff, Smith has worked his way to first team reps.

"I have gotten smarter over the offseason," said Smith. "I've studied and continued to work. My game has gotten better, and I've started to pay attention more in the game."

Purdue has its final practice on Friday before Saturday's Spring Showcase caps off the 2025 spring season.
