WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – As Purdue Baseball opens Big Ten play against Minnesota for the first time since 2011, the conference schedule begins as early as ever and indoors in the home of the Minnesota Vikings to help facilitate the earlier start.
First pitch at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis is set for 7 p.m. ET on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. ET on Sunday. It will be the ninth different site of a Purdue-Minnesota game in the last 20 years, including the fourth in Minneapolis.
The Boilermakers previously played in U.S. Bank Stadium at the 2020 Cambria College Classic, which featured Iowa, Minnesota and Purdue vs. Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State as an unofficial ACC-Big Ten Challenge the final weekend of February. The Boilermakers also played the Gophers inside the Metrodome in April 2009. Two years later, the teams were slated to open the conference season against each other inside the Metrodome. But a blizzard in December 2010 led to the dome collapsing and Minnesota played its Big Ten home series that spring at Target Field.

Big Ten all-time wins leader John Anderson retired at the end of the 2024 season after 43 years as the head coach of the Gophers. Alum and former pitching coach Ty McDevitt has taken over as head coach. The 1980 season marked the last time Purdue played Minnesota without John Anderson serving as the opposing head coach.
The Boilermakers have won six of the last nine games vs. the Gophers dating back to 2021 and have won three straight series in Minneapolis (since 2017) for the first time ever.
Minnesota challenged itself in pre-conference action, playing series at Houston and Arizona State while also taking on Oklahoma, Virginia and Oregon State at a tournament at the Triple-A stadium in Round Rock, Texas. The Gophers have won four of their last five games – a stretch that includes a victory vs. OSU, a series win at ASU and a 16-run outburst in Tuesday's home opener vs. Milwaukee – since starting the season 1-4.
Purdue's 12-1 record is its best entering Big Ten play since the 2022 team began the conference season with a 17-1 mark on March 25. Big Ten play expanded to 10 conference weekends this year due to the addition of the four West Coast schools. That led to the opening weekend of league play moving up to March 7-9. In Big Ten history, only the unique conference-only 2021 season featured an earlier start date to league play (March 5).
Four Boilermakers return home this week, including Minnesota natives Eli Anderson (Fairmont), Will Briggs (Shakopee) and Austin Klug (Caledonia). Brayden Olson's hometown – St. Croix Falls, Wis. – is about 50 miles northeast of Minneapolis on the east bank of the St. Croix River, which serves as the Minnesota-Wisconsin border until it flows into the Mississippi River.
