LINCOLN, Neb. – The No. 52 Purdue men's tennis team fell short at No. 39 Nebraska, 1-4, on Friday evening. The Boilermakers took the doubles point, but a strong singles showing by the Huskers led to a four-point run to clinch the dual.
With the result, Purdue moves to 9-7 (1-6 Big Ten) while Nebraska improves to 11-6 (4-3 Big Ten).
The Boilermakers got off to a hot start in doubles, leading on all three courts to start the dual. The duo of Aleksa Krivokapic and Juan David Velasquez were the first court to finish behind a 6-4 win. After the Huskers fought their way back in at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, doubles came down to Maj Premzl and Henrik
Villanger's court. The Boilermakers came out on top with a clutch 7-5 win while at 40-40 to secure the team's point.
Villanger continued his momentum into singles play, with the sophomore taking the first set against Husker Anton Shepp, 6-3. Across the other courts, the Huskers gained momentum, going on to sweep the remaining courts to clinch the dual.
Purdue will continue its weekend road trip with a stop at Wisconsin on Sunday. The dual is slated to start at 3:30 p.m. ET.
