WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Coming off a bye-week, the No. 63 Purdue women's tennis team is looking to secure its first road victory of the season this weekend as they head to the pacific northwest. The Boilermakers will face No. 20 Washington on Friday at 4 p.m. ET, followed by a match at Oregon on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
THINGS TO KNOW
- The No. 63 Purdue women's tennis team (9-3, 2-2 Big Ten) shut down Maryland's (9-7, 2-2 Big Ten) attempted comeback, 4-2, on March 16. With the win, Purdue remains undefeated at home with a perfect 9-0 record this season.
- Senior Juana Larrañaga clinched the match for the Boilermakers. As one of two courts remaining, the senior took Set 1, 6-2. In Set 2, she fought back in Set 2 to even it, 6-6 and finally in the tiebreak sealed it, 7-6 (5). It was the third time this season the Tandil, Argentina native secured the team's win under the wire.
- Fatima Gutierrez had herself a day against Rutgers on March 14, beginning with a 6-1 victory in doubles alongside teammate Kathryn as the first court to finish. Gutierrez, a freshman, earned her third doubles and third singles victory of the year.
- In singles, Carmen Gallardo Guevara owns 77 career wins, which checks in as ninth in program history. Her next win will tie for No. 7 all-time and is nine wins away from moving up to tie for No. 5 (86 wins).
- The next doubles win for Tara Katarina Milic will tie the No. 15 mark in Purdue history with 59 career wins.
- Carmen Gallardo Guevara is four doubles victories away from tying No. 15 in program history for most wins over a Boilermakers' career (59).
LOOKING AHEAD
- Purdue looks to even the series against the Huskies, currently tied at 2-2. The first meeting between the teams occurred in 2007 during Coach Glitz's inaugural season, when the Boilermakers won 7-0 in West Lafayette.
- #20 Washington boasts players ranked in both singles and doubles. Junior Reece Carter is ranked No. 84 in singles, while the doubles pair of Carter and Alexia Jacobs holds the No. 49 ranking in doubles.
- The Huskies have now won 10 of their last 11 matches after their win at Northwestern on March 22, picking up their third conference road win of the season.
- Purdue and Oregon are currently tied at 1-1 in their series history, with the last matchup taking place in February 2010 in West Lafayette, where the Boilermakers claimed a 4-3 victory.
- Through 14 spring matches, Oregon's doubles teams are a combined 19-19 to go with a 33-33 singles mark. Oregon has faced six ranked teams this spring, most recently on Monday vs. No. 39 Northwestern where the team fell, 4-0.
