WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Game No. 8 of Purdue Baseball's season-long homestand doubles as the Boilermakers' third matchup of the year with an in-state foe as Valparaiso visits Alexander Field for the final midweek game of March.
First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET as the final late afternoon start of the season at Alexander, with weekday games moving to 6 p.m. starting Friday. It's another $3 midweek matchup present by Indiana Packers – general admission tickets, hot dogs, beers, popcorn and nacho are all specially priced at $3.
The Boilermakers are 5-2 on their 12-game homestand but coming off their first weekend series defeat of the season after Michigan took the rubber-game Saturday night.
The Boilermakers are 3-0 in midweek action, with victories at Indiana State plus vs. Butler and Milwaukee during the current homestand. Purdue has posted a double-figure run total in each of those wins. Northern Illinois comes to town Wednesday of next week for the homestand finale.
Isaac Milburn is set to make his first start as a Boilermaker on Tuesday, becoming just the seventh Purdue pitcher over the first 24 games to start on the mound. Milburn has 20 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings pitched, leading the team with a 14.2 K/9 average. Tuesday will be his fourth appearance during the current homestand, matching closer Avery Cook for the team lead.
Valparaiso's schedule features a lot of familiar opponents on it. Each of Valpo's last four weekend opponents are teams on the Boilermakers' 2025 schedule or Big Ten rivals. The Beacons compiled a combined 4-7 record against Niagara, Ohio State, Illinois and Indiana State – winning at least one game all four weekends even while all 11 were played away from Northwest Indiana. Valpo's lineup put up a double-figure run total in games against Niagara, Ohio State, Illinois and Ball State over the last month.
The last two Purdue-Valpo matchups were rained out.
